Documentation
How is the new members table different from the old members table?
Weโre super excited to share with you our newly redesigned Members experience, which is more powerful and easier to use than before.
We recognize that change is never easy and takes some time to get used to. In this doc, weโll cover all of the changes weโve made, the new features weโve added, and where you can find your old beloved features in this new experience.
For reference, here are two screenshots that show the old members table design vs. the new:
Letโs walk through the changes.
1) Changes in information shown on the members table
Columns added:
- Original Source (where in your community the member first appeared)
- Primary Email (the email that should be used to contact the member)
- Linked Profiles (contains all the social handles, emails, identities, etc attached to the memberโs profile)
Columns replaced:
- Github. This is no longer its own column and can now be found as part of the new Linked Profiles column
- Activity. This has been replaced with a simplified version of the previous column. You can still click on the column to view a memberโs activities timeline. You can still sort from highest to lowest activity. Weโve removed the old activities presence bar for now, and plan on replacing it with something more intuitive and easy to understand in the future.
Columns removed:
- Reach. We will replace it once we have improved our Reach calculation.
- Github Followers. We heard from users that this information wasnโt as critical to see on the members table.
- Updated At. Also heard that this information wasnโt very critical
2) New filters and new filter capabilities
We did a lot of work trying to make the filters more intuitive and more powerful. Hereโs what we added:
New filter types
We added the following new filter types to the table:
- Activity Count: You can now find out things like who in your community has sent 10 Discord messages in the past 30 days. Super useful for tracking member milestones.
- First Time Activity: Find out things like who posted on Discord for the first time in the last week.
- No Activity (i.e. โWho did notโ): Find out who has been recently inactive in your community, and which of your ambassadors didnโt post this past week.
- Github Topics: Find out who is into what GitHub topics (Great for deciding on event topics!)
- Linked Profiles: Find out where to contact people by filtering for users with Twitter handles, LinkedIn profiles, etc. Also good for finding out who in your community might be missing a piece of contact info (ex. filter for users without emails)
- Original Source: Find out how many people first joined your community from a specific source (like Discord, Twitter) so you can see which source really brings people in.
- Organization Properties: Discover new organizations that are similar to your target audience by filtering on org size, org type, org industry, annual revenue, and when the org was founded.

New filter operators
With this update, weโve added more filter operators. An operator is how you specify exactly how you want to filter on a specific filter type.
The operators weโve added really expand the range of segmenting you can do on the members table. Weโve put together the chart below to show you the new operators weโve added to the filters you know and love and what these operators do. All new changes are bolded.
Filter types | Operators supported on the new members table |

Hereโs how these new operators make a difference:
- The โis emptyโ operator: Now you can filter for people missing a city on their profile so you can know who to ask for that info.
- The โcontainsโ operator: Now you can filter for people with the word โcommunityโ in their job title (so you donโt have to select every variation of the job title โCommunity Managerโ from the Job Titles dropdown).
- The โis notโ operator: Now you can filter out people who are in orgs you already know about so you can discover members who are part of new interesting orgs to talk to.
3) Changes in where to find old filters
In the new members table, you still have access to all of the filter options in the old members table (aside from one - see FAQ below). However, the location of most filter options have changed. Weโll walk you through where to find all of the old filters so you donโt get lost.
Timeframe Dropdown
In the new members table, the timeframe filter is applied automatically when you filter by Activity Type.
Members-Teammates Button
In the new members table, we opted to make this filter work the same way as all the rest. To find it, select Add filter โ Affiliation. Then use the value dropdown to select member or teammate.
Activity Properties
In the new members table, go to Add filter โ Activity Type. Select your Activity type. Then click [โฆ] and select Activity Properties and select your activity properties.

Title
In the new members table, we renamed this field to Job Title to be more clear. Just click Add Filter โ Job Title to find it.
Advanced Member Tag Options
In the new members table, these options have been converted into the operators โmatches any ofโ, โmatch all ofโ, โdoes not match any ofโ, โdoes not match all ofโ.
If you want to select member tags to include and member tags to exclude, you can do that in the new filter design as well. For example, if you want to filter for prospects who need a welcome and who have not received a welcome yet, you can do the following:
New/Returning
New
In the new members table, the New functionality is now taken care of by the First Time option on the Activity filter. Just go to Add filter โ Activity โ [Select your activity] โ [โฆ] menu โ First time.
This will let you find members who have done a specific activity for the first time in a specific time period (You can specify your time period by selecting an active timeframe). If you want to find new members in general from the past 30 days, just filter for Activity โ Any Activity and select the First Time option and set the Active Timeframe to 30 days.
Returning
This has been removed from the filter options due to low usage and confusion around the concept. However, we will be adding an AND operator for activity types soon which should give you the ability to recreate the Returning concept from before.
4) More powerful search bar on members table
On the old table, you could only search by name, username, email, domain name. On the new table you can now search by linked profile (ex. Discord/LinkedIn handle) and organization name (ex. Apple), in addition to the previous options.
FAQ
Is there anything in the old members table that cannot be found in the new members table?
Currently, the only thing that cannot be found is the Returning filter. However, we will be adding an AND operator for activity types soon which should give you the ability to recreate the Returning concept from before.
