Identify an organization as a customer
This guide provides a quick overview of the two different ways you can identify an organization as a customer in Orbit.
Manually
Users on our Growth, Premium or Enterprise plans will see an Edit button next to the Customer Since attribute on an organization profile page.
By default, all organizations are marked as Non-Customer until you identify them otherwise.
Clicking on Edit will pop up a modal that allows you to change the customer status from Non-Customer to Customer.
You can add the date that the organization became a customer, and provide a link to their profile in any CRM or external tool you use for customer tracking.
Once an organization has been marked as a customer, a badge will appear next to their name throughout Orbit. You can use this to quickly identify which organizations in your community are customers, and which are not.
It will now be possible to use the Organization Status filter attribute to create queries on members or activities specifically from organizations that are customers.
Automatically
Premium plan users that have connected our HubSpot integration can enable Customer Sync from the HubSpot integration settings page.
Once this is enabled, Orbit will take all the organization profiles in your workspace and check your HubSpot instance for matches. Any that we find will have the customer badge and date they became a customer automatically added to their corresponding organization profile page.
Orbit will be notified any time a company in HubSpot moves to the Customer lifecycle stage. This allows us to keep your community organizations up to date with your customer organizations at all times.
Note: When using HubSpot Customer Sync, the Edit functionality for the Customer Since attribute is unavailable. Any changes to this data should be made in HubSpot, you can then click on Refresh Profile to re-sync them.
You can read more about HubSpot Customer Sync in the HubSpot integration documentation.
via API
Lastly, users on any plan can use the API to identify an organization as a customer. So if youβre on a CRM that is not HubSpot, you have another way to add customer information to organizations in your workspace.
